06 Sep 2007

Corus, the international steel company has been short listed to win a prestigious transport award after being nominated for the award in Ireland.

Corus has reached the final as one of only three companies to achieve a place in the Export & Freight All Ireland Transport & Logistics Awards shortlist in the category of ‘Own Account Operator’. This category is for companies who distribute their own product from Ireland.

Corus has a fleet of ten distinctive silver liveried trucks and up to 16 sub-contracted vehicles and employs a team of experienced and highly qualified drivers, of which the longest serving driver, a Lisburn man, Dessie Baxter has worked 38 years with the company.

Martin Connolly, transport manager for Corus in Ireland said about the award, “It was great to be nominated for this award. We were supported by a number of customers, who were pleased enough with our transport service to be able to recommend us for this category and have contributed to us being in the final three.”

“We have invested a lot of time and money to really improve our transport systems and to ensure that we operate a safe and courteous network, with highly experienced drivers. Two years ago, we replaced our fleet with new Erf tractor units, all equipped with the latest of safety equipment and technology,” he added. We are also constantly updating our trailer fleet to the highest specification.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the Ramada Hotel, Belfast on the 14th September, when the winners of all the categories will be announced.
